Second Generation L. pennellii Introgression Lines Accession numbers LA4028-LA4103 Dani Zamir's group (Hebrew Univ., Israel) has donated a ‘second generation’ set of L. pennellii introgression lines in the background of L. esculentum cv. M-82. Similar to the original population, each stock is homozygous for a single chromosome segment (delineated by RFLP markers) introgressed from L. pennellii, such that the entire wild species genome is represented in a group of 50 lines. The new set also includes 25 sublines with smaller segments that provide greater resolution for mapping studies. In addition, the isogenicity of each line has been improved by selection against extraneous L. pennellii markers. The majority of lines are reasonably fertile and are maintained by field culture. However, a few genotypes (see below) are partially sterile, especially under Davis field conditions, and may require manual self pollination (ideally under greenhouse conditions) to produce seed. Available seed of these lines are consequently limited, and only small samples are provided. In addition, line IL8-1 (LA4071) contains two overlapping segments that segregate due to the action of a gamete eliminator gene in this region of chromosome 8. To view the graphical genotype of each line, click on pennellii-ILs.pdf. Partially Sterile ILs:
Several lines contain monogenic morphological traits that can be used to verify line identity. The genes present in each lines are listed below. Additional information on each line can be obtained from our database. List of Known Monogenic Characters
