TGRC Soil mixes:

1) General Purpose Soil Mix

For 1 cubic yard of soil mix:

 

1 x 3 cu.ft. bale of peat moss

 

1 x 4 cu.ft. bag of vermiculite

 

2 x 4 cu. ft. bags of sponge rock

 

3 cu. ft. sand

 

1 x 3 cu. ft. bag of redwood compost

Steam for 1 hour, let cool over night.

Add:

4.5 lbs dolomite 65 AG

1.5 lbs Micro-max

5 lbs. APEX (14-14-14) slow release fertilizer


2) Desert Soil Mix

Recommended for S. pennellii and S. sitiens, but start seedlings in the general purpose mix.

Step 1: Mix ingredients below to make desert mix

 

1 part ground Canadian sphagnum

1 part uniform coarse sand (no silt)

1 part white pumice

1 part redwood compost

3lbs. of oyster shell/yd

3lbs. of dolomite/yd

3lbs. of singe super phosphate/yd

Step 2: Adding additional pumice

 

2 parts desert mix (from above)

1 part white pumice
