TGRC Soil mixes:

General Soil Mix

For 1 cubic yard of soil mix:

 

3 cu.ft. coarse sand

 

3 cu.ft. peat moss

 

3 cu.ft. redwood bark

Steam for 1 hour.

After steaming add:

4 lbs dolomite

3 lbs. APEX (14-14-14)

We also add approximately a ½ tablespoon additional APEX to the middle of the pots when we fill them for transplanting.

For the biweekly fertilizing, we usually use 15-15-30 PLANTEX or 10-30-20 Blossom Booster if it has been cloudy.


Desert Potting Soil Mix (from UC Botanical Conservatory)
-recommended for L. pennellii and S. sitiens

Step 1: Mix ingredients below to make Modified UC mix

 

1 part ground Canadian sphagnum

1 part uniform coarse sand (no silt)

1 part white pumice

1 part redwood compost

3lbs. of oyster shell/yd

3lbs. of dolomite/yd

3lbs. of singe super phosphate/yd

Step 2: Adding additional pumice

 

2 parts Modified UC mix (from above)

1 part white pumice
